Again, I think it comes down to audio components, not the inherent quality of the software pianos. The nocturne also has pp to ff: live it feels reasonably OK in term of dynamic range, the recorded sound less satisfactory (more restricted) to my ears. Https:/ / / s/ yt0x72keaudsn1ln6ttq - German Other than upping the recorded volume - to -2Db below max - no sound adjustments were made in Audacity and the recordings are - as is clear - single takes, just playing through. The over the top resonance almost disappears when listening through the Monitor Audio speakers. I dislike listening through headphones and using these for recording purposes (Sennheiser 540's, old!) is difficult: so much resonance, creating the need for a delicate left foot. Whilst the American has a purer sound, I find the German to be more playable, I can let myself go …… The combination of ES7 and TK's pianos works for me. The recordings are nowhere near perfect, but hopefully demonstrate the sound. Some bemoan the lack of real volume on DPs: I find it adequate in the domestic setting and have played the ES7 in a recital in a small hall. Playing the ES7 with its native sounds was good, part from the lack of resonance, playing TK American or German is very enjoyable indeed. My background is acoustic and the ES7 and TK are my first foray into DPs. One day I will return to it with my extra experience tweaking the other two. I am delighted with both pianos, having struggled to get good (as opposed to decent) sounds from the TK Italian. Audio components however have a dramatic effect on the sounds heard. I have played the nocturne through the desktop speakers and it sounds OK. I have burnt a cd: sounds good via my Meridian cd player, less good through the (new) cd player in the car: bass heavy. The recording settings are optimised for playing through my hi-fi: Arcam Alpha 6+, Monitor Audio speakers. Max volume out from the Mac, 60% output from the DAC, 75% output from the ES7 fro live playing. Output back to the ES7 is via a FiiO DAC Alpen. No discernible latency, unlike the Sony Vaio I had before. I am using a Macbook Pro, OS 10.8.5, 2.6 GHz i7, 8GB Ram, 2 256GB SSDs. So you can see each piano needs (?)/I prefer (?) quite a few different settings and the settings for output through the speakers and out to Audacity for recording differ quite a lot. Same settings for all uses: Release Vol: +6, Resonance volume +6, True Pedal and Repeat - On, Harmonic polyphony 20, Resonance amount +6, Una corda and Half pedal On, Polyphony Max, Velocity range 2 - 127, Sens 40%, Dynamics 95%ĭry/Wet: 100/43 both uses Room: Clean hall/Symphonic hall I have also recordings of the American and German of the Chopin Nocturne Op 9 No 1 - played in the same session, hence the similarity of timings. I thought it might help those experimenting with TK's American and German pianos, especially those with an ES7, to look at the settings for playing through the ES7 speakers and recording - very different settings.
